But over the last several months, the Disney chief made significant moves that took the wind out of those sails. Regardless, the course of action taken by Iger had the same effect, pouring cold water on Peltz’s public grievances. On streaming strategy: Iger moved to take full control of Hulu in a major deal with Comcast. Last week, Disney merged the service into Disney+, putting both libraries into a single app in a move once considered unthinkable. Disney investors overwhelmingly moved to elect Disney’s slate of directors, rejecting Peltz and former company exec Jay Rasulo.

New York CNN —The battle for the future of Disney is about to reach its epic conclusion. New York CNN —Disney won a hard-fought proxy battle against a group of activist investors who sought to secure seats on the company’s board of directors. Disney’s board triumphed by what the company called “a substantial margin” over the nominees put forward by Trian Fund Management and Blackwells Capital at its annual shareholder meeting. Iger didn’t just beat Trian’s Nelson Peltz, but trounced him, according to a person familiar with the vote count. Jay Rasulo, the former Disney finance chief who joined Peltz’s attempt, also lost by a wide margin, the person said. Retail shareholders, which hold roughly 35% of Disney stock, also voted overwhelmingly – 75% – for Disney’s candidates.

Two competing slates of board seats are now up for a vote against Disney’s. Peltz has criticized Disney’s recent theatrical flops and said the company should reach “Netflix-like margins” with its Disney+ streaming service, among other issues. If Peltz is successful, he and Rasulo could gain up to two seats on the board, displacing Disney’s picks. More than 35% of Disney’s shares are held by these individuals, who could seriously sway the vote. The influential advisory firms Institutional Shareholder Service and Egan-Jones have also thrown their support behind Peltz for at least one seat on the board.

Originally designed before America's entry into the Second World War, the YB-49 flying wing was intended to be America's first intercontinental bomber. US Air ForceThe flying wingThe YB-49 was the final iteration of a flying wing bomber concept created by legendary aircraft designer Jack Northrop, founder of the Northrop Corporation. A larger test aircraft, the N-1M, was tested in July of 1940, proving the potential of the flying wing design. The problems with aerial instability could now be solved by computers utilizing fly-by-wire technology and differential thrust, and so a flying wing design was submitted. In order to maintain a powerful bomber force and to keep up with technological innovation, the Air Force launched the Long Range Strike Bomber program in 2011.

The heirs backed Iger and his management for being "faithful" to Disney's "magic" and said the CEO has "grown this company in a modern world." Peltz's Trian Fund Management, which owns about $3 billion of Disney stock, has criticized Disney's leadership and is seeking seats on its board. In early February, Iger and Peltz threw jabs at each other following Disney's better-than-expected earnings report. They understand that the longevity of The Walt Disney Company isn't only the result of smart business decisions; it is rooted in the strong emotional connection Disney continues to forge with generations of people from around the globe. To the contrary, their "I alone can fix it" mentality makes clear that they are not interested in preserving the Disney magic, but stripping it to the bone to make a quick profit for themselves.

Nov 16 (Reuters) - Swedish games developer Embracer (EMBRACb.ST) topped second-quarter operating profit expectations on Thursday, aided by its restructuring efforts, sending its shares up more than 11%. The group, which owns the rights to the Tomb Raider and Lord of the Rings games, reported a 14% drop in adjusted operating profit to 1.8 billion Swedish crowns ($170.2 million) in the quarter through September, but beat analysts' forecast of 1.62 billion crowns. The decline was mainly due to a lower contribution from PC and console games, it said. It announced major restructuring plans in June, after a $2 billion partnership deal with an undisclosed company fell through in May. Embracer's shares have lost nearly a half of their value since it warned on profit in May.

A change in the way activist and private equity investors are viewed is underway, Corvex Management founder Keith Meister said Tuesday. Corporate raider is a term used to refer to aggressive activist investors. "The reason it hasn't happened more quickly is because the amazing large private equity funds have been victims of their own successes," Meister said. Activist investors, which include Trian's Nelson Peltz, can agitate for a wide variety of changes including selling off underperforming or undervalued businesses or replacing management teams. Private equity investors, meanwhile, usually build a controlling stake in a company, with the aim of taking it private and making it more valuable before selling it for a profit.

After college, Sheffield worked for Amoco Corp and later joined his father-in-law's oil company and became CEO five years later. That company would become Pioneer Natural Resources. On his return, he made Permian oil its sole focus: putting natural gas processing, oilfield services and South Texas shale assets on the block. He also embraced an emerging philosophy that emphasized shareholder returns over rapid production gains, rejecting a plan to more than quadruple Pioneer's oil production by 2026. Two of Sheffield's most significant insights were the major role technology would play in reshaping U.S. oil production and the recognition that big oil companies would eventually control the Permian, he said.

Harrison Ford has been donning the fedora and cracking the whip of the daring tomb-raider Indiana Jones for more than 40 years. The series' latest installment, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," leans on myths from ancient Greece about a device that can supposedly turn back the hands of time. Indiana Jones suddenly looked generations younger — perfect for the movie's opening sequence, set during World War II. Founded in 1975 by celebrated "Star Wars" creator Geroge Lucas, ILM — a division of Lucasfilm, which also produces "Indiana Jones" — is at the forefront of this new Hollywood frontier.
